John Gotti (1940–2002) was a notorious American mobster and the boss of the Gambino crime family, one of the most powerful Mafia organizations in the United States. Rising through the ranks of organized crime, he gained control of the family in 1985 after orchestrating the assassination of former boss Paul Castellano. Gotti became known as "The Teflon Don" due to his ability to evade conviction in multiple trials, largely through jury tampering and witness intimidation. His flashy style, public persona, and defiance of law enforcement made him both a media sensation and a target for the FBI. However, his luck ran out in 1992 when he was convicted on charges of murder, racketeering, and other crimes, leading to a life sentence in prison. He died in 2002 from throat cancer, leaving behind a legacy of violence, power, and the eventual decline of Mafia influence in America.
