An introduction to being in business- frankly being in business is bollocks. Really, it is. It's hard yakka, it's frustrating and the pay is usually crap but we keep on at it - why? Because it's what we do and often what is simply expected off us. In the following chapters you will read some personal experiences from people in business that may surprise you. These are business owners who have won numerous business and industry awards. They have dealt with staff, customers, suppliers and everything else in between. They have been part of almost every networking event and group known to man (and woman!) After listening to them I realised I 'got it' I too felt that way and sat there and thought yes "it's all just a load of bollocks!" Maybe turning 50 has brought up my inner petulant child. Maybe turning 50 made me realise life is too friggen short to be out hooking myself and my skills at some network event when I'd prefer to be sipping a wine or reading a decent book. Yep, turning 50 could be blamed for a lot of things until I caught up another business owner who is nowhere near 50 and we shared the same thoughts proving that turning 50 meant I had been breathing on my own for 50 years, 18,250 days, 43,8000 hours... you get the picture don't you? The reality is business is a load of bollocks wrapped up in an online world of professionals trying to 'out-professional' everyone, where lives on Facebook are bigger than they really are because boring doesn't sell, and networking is frankly the most soul-destroying trip outside of illegal drugs!
