Everyone knows the legend of the Phoenix, a protector who watches over the land and keeps the peace. An ancient guardian who is reborn when he dies, he's always been there when people needed protection. He even started a school for martial artists, so they could assist in watching over the land.

Maybe just being safe and guarded isn't enough. Aviva survived the revolution and was brought to the valley, but what future does she have here? A foreigner and presumed orphan, her family is missing, and she survives on the charity of the village. She wants more. She wants to learn martial arts.

The school doesn't teach girls. Or foreigners. She's both. Why should that stop her? Determined to do something with her life, Aviva is willing to go against tradition. She's already overcome great odds and survived, so why let rules get in her way?

The Phoenix couldn't still be around, though, right? Soon Aviva learns there's more to the legends than anyone told her, and being a protector means risking it all to help others. Can she do that? Will she risk everything to follow her dreams?
