The book ASHA HI JEEVANA (ଆଶା ହିଁ ଜୀବନ) is about some real-time events we face in our lives at different times. Time changes. So does our lifestyle. After acquiring a little education and wealth, some start feeling elevated and underestimate the illiterate and poor. Thus, a new class division is created – rich and poor. Examples are Bali's hay-roofed roadside tea stall, Laxmi's poor condition, and Chitrasen's living at the priest's mercy. Some do not start any work for fear of obstacles likely to come on the way. Others start and then stop after facing some problems. A wise person with high hopes to reach the goal continues his efforts. Even repeated failures do not distract him from the path he follows. The central character, Shekhar, faces several problems at home and in his professional Life. He never deviates from the path he chooses. Neither does he care for the failures of the past nor think about the glorious future likely to come. Be it success or failure, the result of our efforts depends very much on the duties we perform and the motives behind them. We must live with hopes, but mere hopes do not help achieve the goal. Consistent efforts are a necessity. Shekhar is inspired by Longfellow's poem – A Psalm of Life:Trust no Future, howe'er pleasant!Let the dead Past bury its dead!Act,— act in the living Present!Heart within, and God o'erhead!
