A Sample: For a while, black major league baseball players ate in their rooms rather than in the dining rooms of the hotels they stayed in—even when the hotels were located in the northern states. Jackie Robinson decided one day that he and his wife would eat in the dining room of the Netherlands-Plaza Hotel in Cincinnati, Ohio. He and his wife walked into the dining room, and the maitre'd seated them, and then he left for a short time. The maitre'd came back with a baseball and a pen, and he told Mr. Robinson that he had been waiting all season for him to come to the dining room so he could ask for his autograph.
