Shortly after Christmas on an overcast day in 1965, two brothers - aged 14 and 12 - gathered in their living room to write a song. Undeterred by minimal skill and a total lack of experience, they forged ahead anyway, hammering out basic chords on cheap guitars and jotting down lyrics of imagined teenage angst. Having recently resolved to form a band, they dreamed of gold records, sold-out concerts, and the fame and fortune that came with it. They weren't alone. At the time, countless young people, hoping to emulate their pop music idols, shared the same dream. For most, the dream never went beyond a few sour-note, rhythmically challenged practices in a garage. The same, however, could not be said of the brothers, who, despite numerous setbacks, equipment malfunctions, and adolescent squabbles, stubbornly refused to give up, and in time, with improved skills and talented musicians by their side, developed a sound that kept them busy for years. This, then, is the story of those two brothers — their tenacity, their innocence, their music obsession - and the life they lived in the warm embrace of a close-knit family during a tumultuous time in history. As for making it big - well, that didn't happen, but, oh man, what a ride it was.
