On an island just off the coast of Japan lives a young girl, named Misora. She and her mother share a deep love of stories and imagination, weaving entire worlds between them. Her father, a wise and quiet man, simply does his best to keep up.

But when an accident at sea leaves her mother on the brink of death, Misora's father recalls an old tale: one of a giant who carries the sun in his wheelbarrow. Desperate for a miracle, he sends Misora to find him.

On her journey, Misora not only discovers the giant, but the two also form an unexpected friendship. She discovers they have more in common than she could ever have imagined. Together, they must face the stone dragon that threatens to swallow the sun, and Misora must summon all her courage to save the one she loves.
