Pieter Gouvart (June 1981) is a Belgian poet and musician who started writing poems at the age of fifteen at the time of his first romance. He considers himself a romantic poet and musician and his overwhelming feelings during romances inspire him to write poetry and music. He has a tendency towards melancholy and uses his art to mitigate his bitter perception of life.

"Fusion & Defusion" is a collection of poems written by Pieter Gouvart in the year 2016. The poet reflects about four periods during his recovery from depression. He explores his mind through depression, heartbreak, love and his daily ups & downs to regain mental stability. "Fusion & Defusion" refers to a method from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which Gouvart uses to write poetry. He fuses with his thoughts and feelings in the heartbreak ("Saudade") and "Love" parts and takes a distance (Defusion) from them in the "Depression" and his daily ups & downs ("A day in the life") chapters.
"The mind is its own place, and in itself can make a heaven of hell, a hell of heaven..." John Milton
