It is a dark time for police departments across the United States. A shocking string of unprecedented police chief murders has greatly rocked the stability of the justice system and severely impacted other officers' ability to respond to other crimes.

The assassin, making themselves known only by the pseudonym "Dark Star", has single-handedly cut the heads off of countless law enforcement organizations across the country, perfectly managing to evade capture every single time and leaving nothing but bodies and grieving loved ones in their wake. No one knows who's on their list or who they'll target next......and no one is safe.

Elsewhere, in the midst of the chaos and confusion, a young Black woman, seeking to start anew after severe loss by serving as a diligent intern at an engineering lab, teams up with three other investigators to find out who is behind the killings, only to find out that the murderer has closer ties to her than she could have ever imagined......
