In a world of pain, who heals a wounded healer?

Lukas Vangelis and his niece Diana Karras are wounded healers. Their hospice has eased the passage of many patients into peaceful death. The burden of being healers has left both of them with deep scars.

Lukas received a nocturnal visit from his long-dead mother, who warns him that the time to pass his gifts to a successor is approaching. As he begins the search for this nameless person, he faces his own reckoning: how to heal the hurts he's caused others.

As Lukas battles these obstacles, he must deal with this unacknowledged love for a coworker. While Lukas and Diana seek their individual reconciliations with the past, a young woman is fighting for her life against cancer. When Lukas meets her, he recognizes her four-year-old son as his successor. As he passes his powers to the boy, he reaches the end of his own journey toward peace.
