Life after leaving Kamloops Indian Residential School resulted in a period of deep depression until Mary Jane visited her grandmother Ya-yeh at her cabin in the hills at the Meadows. Mary Jane survived the school's strict regime by acting as a robot, becoming numb to feelings, hopes and dreams.
