The Powder Blue Palace chronicles the life of a young man born to poor but humble parents, who, in his heart, longs to someday attain the material wealth of those who employ him and his family. The young man's scholastic intelligence draws the eye of the wealthy town benefactor, whose spiritual goal is to assure the education of the community's youth. Her mission in life is to inspire the children of her small southern town to better themselves through education as a means of securing their place in society, equal to those who look down on them with racial disdain.
