"The Great Gatsby" is a classic American novel set in the 1920s, during the Jazz Age and the post-World War I economic boom. The protagonist, Jay Gatsby, is a mysterious and wealthy young man who lives in a luxurious mansion on Long Island and throws lavish parties. Behind the facade of his wealth lie tragic secrets and unfulfilled dreams. He is obsessed with love for Daisy Buchanan, a girl from his past, and his life is a desire to win her love back. The story is told from the perspective of Nick Carraway, a young man who moved to Long Island and witnessed the high society of that time. Through his eyes, the reader sees tragedy, the collapse of ideals and the deep loneliness of the characters. The novel touches on the themes of the American dream, love, greed and moral emptiness, making it relevant to this day. The text of the novel is adapted for level B2 and is supplied with a glossary. The book also includes exercises to test your knowledge.
