Obesity is a complicated condition that necessitates an integrated, interdisciplinary strategy that may be tailored to the individual patient's demands on a case-by-case basis. The prevalence of problematic eating behavior is frequently present at the root of this pathology. Eating disorders have received increased attention from the scientific community and the community of health and social workers in recent years, owing to their prevalence among younger population segments. According to World Health Organization data, chronic diseases cause 86 percent of deaths and 75 percent of health spending in Europe and the United States, with four major risk factors serving as the lowest common denominator: smoking, alcohol misuse, poor food, and physical inactivity. The latter two circumstances are at the root of the worrying and ongoing rise in the incidence of overweight and obesity in Western and developing nations, which has reached epidemic proportions.
