Compensated dating or commercial sex involving young girls has emerged as a global concern over the past decades and since the turn of the twenty-first century, has created a panic among parents in Hong Kong. Nevertheless, there is no consensus on whether compensated dating is an offence, an illegal victimization, or a private matter. Guardians at different levels are eager to locate feasible intervention measures to deal with this rising issue while academics and researchers are interested in understanding more of its features and the viewpoints of the different parties involved.
Through the lens of an original, detailed qualitative study with 27 girls involved in compensated dating and a quantitative study involving around 1,000 parents, social workers, police officers, and community leaders, this book offers readers both insiders' voices and outsiders' views of compensated dating. In addition to addressing local and global concerns, it maintains a balance between theory and practice, description and debate.
