Ginny Boyer is back in her hometown of Crabapple Landing, attempting to settle her father's affairs after his recent passing. While out for a walk one morning—deliberately trespassing—she trips and badly injures her ankle. Unfortunately, her childhood nemesis, Brad Fowell, finds her. Their families have been feuding for generations, and their history is contentious, but he ends up carrying Ginny to his truck and taking her to the hospital.

As they spend time together, feelings start to develop despite the animosity that's surrounded them their whole lives. A centuries' old feud over lakefront property and money conditioned them to hate each other. But they have more in common than they thought.
