A few generations ago, before Maputo became a city, a giant snake would attack locals as they walked through the jungle to collect water from a nearby river.

One brave young woman decided to put an end to the threat. She cleverly tricked the snake into falling into a pot of boiled maize meal.

Wounded, tired, and weak from its injuries, the snake finally collapsed and lay motionless.

To honor her bravery, a statue was erected to commemorate the courage and sacrifice of the young woman, who freed the community from danger and brought a better life to the village.

Based on a true story passed down through generations, this tale has been adapted and written by Paulo J. Chemane.
