Glacier Bay National Park is home to the largest humpback whale skeleton on display in the United States, reconstructed from a whale that biologist nicknamed "Snow".

This children's book is the fictionalized story of Snow's life, in which she travels from Alaska to Hawaii and back teaching her calf Snowflake, everything he needs to know about being a whale. Travel with Snow and Snowflake as they encounter killer whales, flying fish and other marine mammals.

The inspiration for A Tale of a Whale Named Snow came from an Alaskan newspaper article about a whale known to the locals as Snow, that was struck by a cruise ship in Glacier Bay and how the local people rallied together, recovered the skeleton and reconstructed the bones to build a monument.
