Twelve-year-old, Jessica Louise Chrisman dreams of taking part in the brand-new space program President Kennedy has authored. Jessie longs to fly to the stars and circle the earth just as John Glenn and Valentina Tereshkova have done. But there are stumbling blocks for American women. President Kennedy isn't ready for females in the program. Add to that a bum right leg, and things are not looking bright. But Jessie will not give up. After all, once an astronaut reaches the stars, everything floats. What an adventure it must be!
