Postpartum depression (PPD) is a mood disorder that affects some women after childbirth, typically within the first few weeks to months. It is characterized by feelings of extreme sadness, hopelessness, fatigue, anxiety, and difficulty bonding with the baby. Unlike the "baby blues," which are temporary and mild, PPD can significantly impact daily functioning and last for months if untreated. It is believed to be caused by a combination of hormonal changes, physical stress, and emotional challenges. Seeking help from a healthcare provider is essential for proper diagnosis and treatment, including therapy and, in some cases, medication.
