The war which ravaged the continent ended years ago. The Overlord's mind-controlled monsters have long since escaped his leash, building lives of their own.

Meanwhile, Tomasind leads her clan back home after years of wandering. Her people are tired, resources are scarce, and winter is soon approaching.

But higher up the mountain, there are new neighbors who seem to be doing just fine for themselves, so Tomasind finds herself in the position of marrying into the strangest household she could have imagined.

Whether she can get used to living in a fortress filled with monsters is a different question to whether they can get used to her in turn.
