Jess Day lives with her grandmother, works in a coffee shop with her best friend Minny, composes pros and cons lists, feverishly studies for her pre-med classes, and ... does pretty much nothing else. She just doesn't have time.

Nick Porter, neighborhood mechanic, spends a lot of time hanging out in the coffee shop, some of it trying to flirt with Jess.

Then Jess' car breaks down, and Nick offers to fix it for parts plus ten dates. Broke, Jess reluctantly agrees.

When Jess gets a text from Nick and her professor makes her read it to the entire class, she gains a little notoriety, and suddenly Simon, the class stud, appears interested.

Then Simon invites her to a study group at his place in the Hamptons, and chaos reigns. Jess must run for her life — and, unexpectedly, Nick is there to help. But is he really a mechanic, an undercover cop, or could he be a serial killer?
