In 1863, tens of thousands of soldiers were drawn into the fight to abolish slavery. Among them were a few who harboured secrets. One such soldier was Private Emmett Croft, who, like many others, was not what he seemed.

He was actually a woman named Emily Croft, who braved the horrors of war to fight for a cause to which she was deeply committed to.

Anna, a slave, was fleeing a cruel overseer of the plantation where she was owned.

When Anna found Emily, who had shot by a Confederate soldier, she discovered Emily's secret but chose to help her regardless of the consequences.

The bond that developed between the two women transcended friendship, blossoming into love.
