Detective David Webb's latest assigment finds him tracking a country house burglar who also dabbles in murder. Bad weather forces Helen Campbell to cut her road trip short and spend the night in the Seven Stars Guest House, where she innocently picks up the local rag to read her horoscope. Little does she suspect that the stars hold much more information than just the day's outlook. One week later, when she returns for an extened stay, Helen becomes increasingly involved in the lives of the Seven Stars' proprietors and other guests. A hit-and-Run accident that happens just beyond the inn's drive seems suspiciously intentional, and there's been a curious string of estate break-ins nearby. Inspector Webb hunts the criminal who is targeting the local aristocracy, and Helen Campbell digs up some clues of her own.
