Can Lillian find the balance between being a warrior and being a woman?

Lillian is a woman uncomfortable in her own skin. She is the daughter of the king and second-in-command of the Twentarian army. More at ease on the battlefield than in the ballroom, she can outride and outfight any of the men under her command, but she feels conflicted.

She has chosen the life of a warrior, but her grandmother is constantly hounding her to be a "real lady," like her sister Katrina, the epitome of beauty and grace. Philip, her best friend and commander of the army, offers comfort and support. Lillian desires more than friendship, but fear keeps her from voicing her feelings until it is too late.

In the midst of her personal turmoil, something dark has awakened and is threatening the borders of Twentaria. Lillian and her army fiercely defend the kingdom, but are no match for this strange dark magic.

Lillian finds treachery in familiar faces and love in a new one—Arden, a fellow warrior, who pursues Lillian's heart relentlessly. Through it all, Lillian must find a way to balance her personal feelings and responsibilities to the kingdom, and ask herself, can she be both a warrior and a woman?
