Seven years later, Meriel saves a lone sailor when his boat capsizes in rough seas. Once on shore, she discovers that the half-drowned sailor is none other than Ronan. But he is not as she remembers him.

Magic overcomes her and she changes back to human form, but their joyful reunion and rekindled love is cruelly brief. She can only stay human for one day.
