《尚书》是我国古代一部重要的历史文献汇编，分为虞、夏、商、周四书，内容大致可分为三类：关于尧、舜、禹、皋陶、启等人的远古历史传说；关于周朝建国初年的重要文献，尤其重点反映了周公旦的活动；一些零散孤立的档案。它内容博大精深，文字却佶屈聱牙。此次整理时加入曾运乾《尚书正读》的内容。
