Pax is a faerie in a world where there are two truths. The first being that through magic almost anything is possible. The second is that nothing in Faerie ever changes. Pax is so bored he has started going to the court that emulates humanity, where faeries engage in a pantomime of human ways, dueling for honor, running tea shops, and ultimately looking for suitable ways to die. Everything changes, however, when his close friend, Thorn, takes him to a party during which a human girl crosses the veil. Not all is at it seems. The girl knows Pax's true name and begins wreaking havoc in the courts.
