After Appomattox, Ryan Campbell seeks the love of his life, Sandra Kay Osteen. She and her mother away from home. Through a note left for him, he learns they left to retrieve the family sons after the Civil War. One is dead, the other wounded. He leaves the Osteen farm in despair.
