In 2114, the future is bright and the world is burning.

Kaalinda is satisfied with life at school. She's studying botany to rebuild her family's farming legacy, but making it work in this scorched world.

She must leave that life behind when she's drafted into the CFoR. It offers her a different opportunity: an opportunity to seek vengeance against the rebels that destroyed her home, her community, her family.

Training to become a soldier is hard; she is not a typical recruit, more petite than the others, not as strong or as fast. But she passed the initial test, her body just requiring special shots. Her body armor is different, too, and there are no shots to help with that.

But she's not the only person who notices that she's different and doesn't fit in. Someone who thinks she shouldn't have been recruited in the first place, someone who thinks she had ulterior motives. And they intend to make sure she fails out-or dies-before training is complete.
