《变色龙》是俄国作家契诃夫早期创作的一篇讽刺小说。小说描写了一只小狗咬了赫留金的手指，巡官走来断案。在断案过程中，他根据狗是或不是将军家的这一点而不断改变自己的面孔。文章通过对见风使舵、欺下媚下的警官奥楚蔑洛夫这个沙皇专制统治的忠实走狗的刻画，巧妙地揭露了俄国警察制度的反动和虚伪，批判它反人民的实质。
