So in 1966, Mao launched the Cultural Revolution and at the same time launched a nationwide mass campaign to "catch traitors". Zhou Enlai took the lead in criticizing Qu Qiubai as "traitor" who had twice served as general secretary of the Communist Party of China and had been killed by the Kuomintang in 1936. The Red Guard s immediately took actions and a large number of veteran cadres have been identified as traitors all over the country. In Haifeng County of Guangdong Province, the hometown of Peng Bai who was the leader of the CPC killed by Kuomintang in 1929, the rebels of the County criticizing Peng Bai as a traitor in 1967, for this reason more than 100 people were killed more than 3000 injured, and more than 800 were disabled. Later in the process of Cultural Revolution, not only there was a "Traitor，Scab and Agent Provocateur Liu Shaoqi", "Deng Xiaoping is a shameful traitor to the dictatorship of the proletariat"，and also the top leaders of the Central CPC Committee who launched the national mass campaign to "catch traitors", Lin Biao's whole family "betray the country and go over to the enemy", Zhou Znlai was said to be "surrender" by Mao Zedong, and Jiang Qing, Chen Boda and Zhang Chunqiao，and so on, were all "traitors".
