Esther Dougherty's Pawpaw Dog and Other Dog is a surreal and abstracted journey through the philosophy of gender and identity.
It is a day like any other. Two dogs on a walk are having a fight. They see a pawpaw tree with a single fruit. When one of the dogs swallows the fruit whole it is possessed by the fungus hidden within. Kidnapped by a fungus, it forces the other to do its bidding; to answer its question! As Other Dog struggles to carry out his task, Fungus (wearing Pawpaw Dog as a skin) reveals to him fantastic visions and terrible secrets that will shake him to his core! If Other Dog cannot identify the sex of the pawpaw tree in time he will lose Pawpaw Dog forever. Will Other Dog ever save his friend? What's the agenda of this depraved Fungus? And what's under the pawpaw tree? Oh my god you better FIND OUT!
