  • A GRAND CLASSIC of World Literature by DANTE ALIGHIERI.

The Divine Comedy, the Italian narrative poem of Dante, completed in 1321, as translated by AMERICAN author HENRY WADSWORTH LONGFELLOW was first published in 1867 in the UNITED STATES.

A MEDIEVAL VISION of the afterlife as it existed in the Western Church by the 14th century. It is divided into three parts: Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso. It is widely considered one of the greatest works of world literature.

    Sneak Peak

Midway upon the journey of our life

I found myself within a forest dark,

For the straightforward pathway had been lost.

Ah me! how hard a thing it is to say

What was this forest savage, rough, and stern,

Which in the very thought renews the fear.

    Synopsis

To aid in perfecting the translation and reviewing proofs, in 1864 Longfellow organized the "Dante Club," a group of friends that met on Wednesdays until the Longfellow translation was published in 1867.
