Imagine that, in the not-too-distant future, a fascist coup d´état implants a dictatorial, nationalist and mysogynist regime in the Azores. Imagine that this state of affairs is the result of decades of degratation of democratic institutions and social services. But, also imagine that, in the midst of so much repression, the light of hope does not die, but it is nurtured by a small group of resistance fighters. This is their story: how left-wing groups united in resistance and how they kept the dreams of April, democracy and freedom alive.

This novella stems from the memories of the elderly daughter of a couple of resistors and focuses on the desperate actions of the men and women from São Miguel, who gave their effort and their lives because they believed it was possible to overthrow the fascist regime.

With the island of São Miguel as is backdrop, SEAGULLS ALSO DIE, is a story of hope and of terror, told in a compelling way, and it serves as a warning of what can happen if we don´t cultivate the basic institutions of democracy and people´s quality of life.
