Abby is a leading addiction psychiatrist who uses a controversial method of "controlled use" of hardcore drugs to help Seattle musicians function without giving up their addictions. Personally, Abby has experienced childhood trauma that, at times, makes it difficult for her to cope with everyday life, drowning her own grief in sex, drugs, and the occasional surfing.

To avoid a family reunion, Abby agrees to treat Christian Christensen, a volatile ex-junkie and lead singer of Bliss, on several tour dates. Unknown to Abby, Christian saw her at one of his concerts and is convinced she is his forever. When the two start a passionate physical affair, the critical musician discovers the doctor has led a double life, and his love turns to hate, forcing Abby to look in the mirror and chart a better future for herself─ and she might have to do it alone.
