Seven-year-old Ricky Howell yearns to explore the stars. When he wishes to escape trouble at home, he can often be found outside, looking up to the sky—especially after nightfall, when the space battles are most visible, when it seems like many of the stars are flying and zipping across the heavens. One day, Ricky hopes to do the same, and he can't wait.

Grampa Howell, meanwhile, is not only Ricky's grandfather, but also an expert star traveler—one of the greatest ever.
