When sea raiders kill Tuonela's parents, a girl with golden hands helps her flee: only for an old blind woman to fool her into sheltering in a deserted palace and loosening a dangerous prisoner's shackles. As Tuonela tries to slam the dungeon's door, her hands dissolve away to nothing – and they can only be replaced, she gradually learns, when the moon sheds tears of gold.
