And Four to Go is a collection of four Nero Wolfe novellas by Rex Stout, first published in 1958. The book continues the adventures of the eccentric genius detective Nero Wolfe and his sharp-tongued assistant, Archie Goodwin. These stories are brimming with Stout's trademark wit, intricate plotting, and the dynamic relationship between Wolfe and Goodwin. The collection includes four novellas centered around holidays: Christmas Party, Easter Parade, Fourth of July Picnic, and Murder Is No Joke. Each novella involves murder, but the circumstances and settings vary, keeping the reader engaged throughout. In Christmas Party, Archie takes on the role of an undercover investigator at a holiday office party that quickly turns deadly. Easter Parade follows Wolfe and Archie as they navigate a murder mystery amid a New York City parade. Fourth of July Picnic sees Wolfe begrudgingly attending a rural picnic, only to be drawn into a murder investigation. The final story, Murder Is No Joke, takes place in Wolfe's brownstone, where a supposed prank call leads to a shocking murder. Wolfe's aversion to leaving his home is humorously highlighted, especially in Fourth of July Picnic, where his rare venture into the outside world proves to be filled with complications. Meanwhile, Archie's engaging personality and smart, witty dialogue keep the tone lively, even in the midst of the darker themes of murder. Each novella in And Four to Go demonstrates Rex Stout's skill in creating short but tightly woven mysteries, where every clue matters, and Wolfe's brilliant deductions never fail to surprise. Fans of traditional detective fiction will appreciate the blend of suspense, humor, and the unique relationship between Nero Wolfe and Archie Goodwin. This collection is an excellent introduction to Stout's world for new readers, and a treat for longtime fans of Nero Wolfe.
