Tabby & the Gnome Tree by H. D. Bobb Jr.

A 10-year-old girl explores a forest near her home. She discovers something wonderful in the woods she never dreamed of. She discovers a fairy in distress and provides aid. This leads to a friendship and exposure to other magical things in the forest. Her fairy friend lives with gnomes in a magical tree. She meets the gnomes and becomes entranced in their lifestyle and how causally magic helps in their daily life. The encounter opens her eyes to the wonders of magic and the winter holidays. It also makes her appreciate things her family does for her and allows for her to pay back their kindness. The Winter Solstice and Christmas this year are special!
