Maddie
How did I become a washed-up lawyer at the ripe age of twenty-six? I'll tell you. Connor Freaking Quinn. He's to blame. He's cocky and big-headed, the devil himself. When he shows up at my new job, to apologize, I'd just as soon torture him than talk to him.
The problem is, the longer I'm away from the courtroom, I can't help but realize I prefer a much different court. I hate being wrong. But I'm not wrong about Connor. So what if he helps at an underprivileged school and can wear the heck out of a pair of—

The reason for our feud? Where to begin? Teasing Maddie is a great distraction, and I need a distraction from the enormous debt my parents left my sister and I in.
Fighting with Maddie is invigorating, but perhaps, I took it too far. I didn't mean to start that rumor. And now I'm determined to make it up to her by whatever means necessary.
The guilt isn't the only thing keeping me around though. There's more to Maddie than what she lets everyone else see. I see her, though. I always have.
But she'll never give me a chance, because I'm just the devil to her.
