It's difficult to ask people to put all of their effort into working toward something that's only vaguely defined. However, when shown something good, people generally have enough imagination to visualize that thing being even better and more complete. The new kingdom will be a great place, and one element of its greatness will be the universal love among citizens. There's nothing stopping the citizens of the current kingdom from taking steps toward a similar universal love now, and thereby making the current kingdom more like the kingdom to come. The example set by believers is critical in helping our neighbors see the potential of the new kingdom mindset. A person who has only known judgement can't easily imagine universal compassion, nor can a person imagine consistent love among neighbors when they've only known selfishness. A small example of the positive behaviors will cause people to consider what it would be like if everyone had the new mindset. The next challenge is the realization that the new kingdom mindset is working at its full potential only when everyone has adopted it. Trust in God enables us to sustain the mindset ourselves even as we acknowledge the unlikelihood of universal adoption in the near future. The lack of observable progress will not deter us from exerting continued effort if we have faith. God loves us, and He wants us to have this love amongst ourselves. If God desires this, then we know it's possible and therefore we work toward it.
