After the polar ice caps melt in the Thaw, the Corporations take control of the flooded zones and create virtual utopias over the great cities of the past that rest below the waves.

This brought down all the modern technology in the world, including the Frame, in an event now known as FrameFall.

Five years later, the world is still struggling to reclaim some of the technology that was so ubiquitous in their world, and restore some sense of order.
