The last thing Linndan expected when the gods dragged him back to Melphor was being tasked with locating Tehaksha, the missing goddess of the underworld. Threatened with remaining stuck on Melphor, he agrees to help. His search led him from one end of the country to the other, uncovering the theft of an ancient and evil book in the process.

Despite his protests, Empress Hihaye prevents Linndan from completing his task, declaring that the theft is a more pressing matter. The gods are no help, insisting that he deal with this as well. What he finds at the end of his journey will change Melphor forever.
