L. Frank Baum, best known for his "Oz" series, also wrote several other works of fantasy, including "American Fairy Tales" and "The Sea Fairies." The first one is a collection of twelve short stories. Published in 1901, this collection is characterized by its playful tone and moral lessons. Released ten years after, "The Sea Fairies" represents Baum's attempt to create a new fantasy world apart from Oz. The narrative revolves around a young girl, nicknamed Trot, and her friend, Cap'n Bill, who embark on an underwater adventure after being invited by a mermaid named Princess Clia.
