Profit margin, which can be roughly understood as the difference between total value minus total cost, or between effort contribution and reward, always fluctuates greatly between individuals. Activities with high profit margins, although only a minority of the company's total activities, give the unit a very large portion of the total profit earned by the unit. If we do not promptly take corrective actions (this natural law), the "warp" between the two ends will become even greater. Yet most of us just bury our heads in the sand (accounting systems are capable of serving as endless beaches specifically for this purpose) and refuse to accept the fact that the majority of What we and our company do has far less value than a minority of jobs that are productive and have large profit margins.
