Libby Fischer Hellmann's 18th novel fictionalizes the little-known story of the Ritchie Boys, a group of 2200 German Jewish immigrants who fled Hitler and joined the US Army to fight Nazis during World War Two. Both a coming-of-age and WW2 novel, Max's War is based on historically accurate information and is loosely follows her late father-in-law's experiences during the war.
