The rain fell like tears from the heavens, as if even the sky mourned for what was to come. She stood alone in the middle of the deserted street, the storm raging around her, a reflection of the turmoil that raged within her heart.

This was the beginning of the end, she knew it. The culmination of years of pain and heartache, of struggles that seemed insurmountable. She had fought so hard, had tried so desperately to hold on to hope, but in the end, it had all been for nothing.

The memories flooded back, unbidden and unwelcome, like a barrage of arrows aimed at her heart. The harsh words that had been spoken, the bitter fights, the endless cycle of hope and disappointment.
