Is love worth the pain it may cost? Is there any escaping–?

Song cannot even dream of freedom, for he was raised from his earliest memories to be a tool for his cruel father. He is no longer allowed in the palace garden, where his little feather-dragon friend, Furgo, used to play with him.

Song's world is changed when he is visited by a mysterious servant man who would risk himself to give Song the chance to be with Furgo again.

Yet to truly hope, to love when losing seems like a certainty, is a terrifying step Song cannot make on his own.

A child traumatized by his fears. A man scarred by his past. An affectionate feather-dragon bonded to them both. They must do what they can to make each other happy, facing hardships of hunger and cold as they seek refuge in the wilderness from all who would use them.

This is not an epic fantasy. It is not a story of heroic battles and victories that may change the world. It is a story of emotions and longings, a story of the meaning of freedom and love.

Whether or not the characters involved will be part of saving or changing the world is irrelevant to this story.

This is a story about the emotional meaning in common place pleasures and sacrifices, in the hardships of hunger and cold that come with surviving in the wilderness. It is a story about finding meaning in the mundane things. It is a story about finding contentment in relationship and love, whether or not the world can ever be safe.

It is the love story about the rescue of one small child.

It could almost be a romance if we make the word romance into no more than a description of simple love, of desperate heartache, of the undefinable need to be with another and to make that other happy. It is a story of found family from the perspective of a child who has no concept of family.

It is NOT in any way, shape, or form, a story of sexual attraction.
