Thersa and Nidrean are sent by the king to the Academy in a foreign land, to punish their mother for the forbidden things she had been teaching them. Raised in the confines of the women's quarters, where abuse was common, poorly educated, and entirely unfamiliar with the outside world, the young sisters find themselves in a place with customs so different they're incomprehensible. They're expected to work alongside boys, wear armor, and learn the sword!

One thing gives them the courage and determination to learn, to survive. This could be an open door to freedom – if they can find a way to stay.
